My mother’s quilt
What you can see, is a picture of my mother’s quilt. Like I said it’s made by my mum, she made it in 2010. She likes working with this material, it’s cotton.
First she makes a pattern, then she draws that pattern on the cotton. When she finishes this, she sews all the cotton parts together. She did that with these six blocks. Next she made side-pieces between the blocks and made it into one piece. On the backside of this cloth comes another piece of cotton material. Between these pieces she put fibrefill which is a sort of soft filling material. Then you have to quilt it . In the quilting process you sew patterns on the cloth which gives it its final touch.
I love this quilt because there is a lot of blue in it, blue is my favourite colour. I find all the stars in it beautiful. These six stars are all different although they are similar in a way. They follow the same pattern, but are also quite different. On the border of this piece you can see a nice pattern of stripes with blue sewing thread.
When it’s cold, the quilt makes you warm. When it’s warm, it make you cold.
